All you who sleep tonight
Far from the ones you love,
No hand to left or right
And emptiness above--
Know that you aren't alone
The whole world shares your tears,
Some for two nights, or for one,
And some for all their years.

Its surprising how poets can pen such a volume of emotions so economically. I think this particular one has been penned by Vikram Seth.

Sometimes authors write the most unexpcted things. Margaret Atwood once wrote a seven word story-- I liked him. I got him. Shit.
